Every Ekadashi from January to December with date, weekday and paksha, plus the general parana rule and an explanation of two-day Ekadashis.

Ekadashis that fall on two days (*)
When the tithi spans two sunrises, the fast is observed on two days. Tradition asks smarta householders to fast on the first day, and Vaishnavas, sanyasis and moksha seekers on the second. In 2027 three Ekadashis work this way:
- Pausha Putrada: smarta on 18 January (Monday), Vaishnava on 19 January (Tuesday)
- Kamika: smarta on 29 July (Thursday), Vaishnava on 30 July (Friday)
- Rama: smarta on 25 October (Monday), Vaishnava on 26 October (Tuesday)
A few notable Ekadashis
- Nirjala Ekadashi (14 June): considered the most austere Ekadashi of the year, kept without even water. The belief is that it carries the merit of all 24 Ekadashis.
- Devshayani Ekadashi (14 July): marks the start of Chaturmas; Lord Vishnu is said to enter yogic sleep.
- Devutthana Ekadashi (10 November): the end of Chaturmas, and the traditional day of Tulsi Vivah.
- Mokshada Ekadashi (9 December): the day of Gita Jayanti; in the South it is also called Vaikuntha Ekadashi.
Fast and parana, in brief
- The fast runs from sunrise on Ekadashi day; grains and cereals are avoided. Fruits, milk and water may be taken as your health allows.
- Parana: break the fast on Dwadashi after sunrise and before the Dwadashi tithi ends. The exact window depends on local sunrise; our panchang page shows the day's tithi and sunrise for your reference.
- This list follows the New Delhi (IST) panchang. A one-day difference across cities or panchang traditions is normal, not an error.
Source and method
We computed this list with our own panchang engine (tithi at New Delhi sunrise) and cross-checked it against the published Drik Panchang 2027 Ekadashi list for New Delhi, smarta tradition (drikpanchang.com/vrats/ekadashidates.html?year=2027). Our engine finds 25 sunrises in 2027 where Ekadashi tithi prevails at sunrise; 3 and 4 March both qualify because the tithi spans two sunrises. The traditional viddha rule (Ekadashi touched by Dashami at dawn moves the fast to the next day) puts the smarta fast on 4 March, which is how the published list arrives at 24 observance days. The table shows these published smarta observance days; Vaishnava alternates are marked separately above.
Questions on this article
When is Nirjala Ekadashi in 2027?
Nirjala Ekadashi falls on Monday, 14 June 2027. It is the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi of Jyeshtha, and tradition asks for a fast without even water.
How many Ekadashis are there in 2027?
There are 24 Ekadashis in 2027, two each month (Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha). 2027 has no adhik maas, so the count stays at the usual 24.
Why do some Ekadashis appear on two days?
When the Ekadashi tithi spans two sunrises, smarta households fast on the first day and Vaishnavas (or sanyasis and moksha seekers) on the second. In 2027 this happens for Pausha Putrada (18/19 January), Kamika (29/30 July) and Rama Ekadashi (25/26 October).
When should the Ekadashi fast be broken (parana)?
Parana is done the next day (Dwadashi) after sunrise and before the Dwadashi tithi ends. The exact window depends on local sunrise, so check your city panchang.
